When rebuilding a gearbox assembly, it is preferable that all the gears and transmission-shafts are renewed at the same time. That is to say if you reuse the old parts with the interfacing old parts that is fine, but if you fit a new part, make sure you renew the parts it meshes or interfaces with.
Interfacing old worn gears with new components can lead to meshing problems and premature wear of the new gears.
