The balancer shaft assembly will require a close examination for wear and/or damage when carrying out a full engine rebuild. It does not suffer from the same degree of wear as the engine internals, crank and valve gear; however the bearings, drive chain, tensioner and perhaps other elements of the assembly may require replacement, particularly if the engine has run on poor quality oil or has not been serviced at the correct intervals sometime in the past?
