This part is prone to failure after time due to a build up of lime scale and general wear. It is almost impossible to repair and given its vital job of controlling the engine temperature is much better being renewed (and simpler!).

Had to replace the (very old) thermostat in the 1000RX I've been restoring after noticing heating problems. First I did check the old one by dipping it in hot water and it was just not opening up properly and certainly not at the right temperature. So this was a great find. Put it in last week with a new gasket and at the same time I changed the water sensor too. All working fine again.
