Honda oil pump

I recently purchased a new honda pump assembly for my 1984 Honda xl600r. In these dry sump engines it is vitally important that the oil pump is maintained in good condition.

Following the recommendation that the oil pump is replaced when reconditioning the engine I purchased the entire oil pump assembly. (mine had ingested some bearing fragments and the rotors were damaged and pump case badly scored.)

The item is of excellent quality well packaged and ready to fit except for the o-rings and collars that seal the main oilways. I would recommend that anyone purchasing the pump assembly replace the o-rings as well.

It is also important to note that once the pump has been fitted it MUST be primed. This prevents cavitation of the pump and resultant oil starvation. There are a number of different ways to prime the pump and there is information readily available on the internet, essentially oil must be forced into the pump before the bike is started for the first time so that the pump is not running dry.
