The front brake does the most work, obviously; it is therefor more wear prone as well as vulnerable to damage, both accidental and from road debris.
Whether fully overhauling or just carrying out a light refurbishment, using the correct, factory specification components is advisable, for safety and braking performance and keeping the machine as close as possible to the original factory spec - which in turn will keep the residual value higher. If you are refurbishing the front brakes then you should, in any case, consider at least an inspection of the rear brake as well, especially as it needs to be correctly balanced within the ABS system.
