The air filter assembly and it's constituent parts need to be in good shape with no damage, especially on the inner faces where gas flow is so vital for top performance. Degradation, and even cracking, with temperature extremes over time, dramatically reduce performance and can lead to damaging particulates entering the engine.
Renewal of the damaged and degraded parts is the only realistic way to achieve perfectly cool, filtered air.
