Once the old tubes become pitted and rusty, the fork-seals will keep on failing, allowing fork oil to seep into the brake calliper with potentially disastrous results.
There are two ways of resolving this problem, hard-chroming and grinding back to correct tolerances, or, with a more guaranteed outcome, simply buying newly produced fork tubes, manufactured in chrome-molybdenum to a precise specification usually for less than the cost of refurbishment.
