Honda XBR500 information
Improved replacement for FT500, based on XL500.This four valve single overhead cam air cooled engine put out a very respectable 43bhp @ 7500 rpm. It appealed to the type of owner that would have liked a BSA Goldstar or Velocette Thruxton, but did not wish to put up with the difficult kick-starting procedures those models demanded!
The machine had good reviews at the time. Excellent range of 200 miles from the 19litre fuel tank, with improved handling and power over the outgoing FT.
The machine is still produced today in 400cc form for the Japanese home market, now called the CB400SS, and it is still a head turner as far as styling goes, although these day’s a little down on power with barely 30bhp available.
