Launched in 1971, with an upgrade to disc brake, the out going XS1 had a drum up front, as well as other detail features ensured this machines ongoing popularity, especially in North America, where it was starting to carve itself a name in flat track oval racing, sop popular then as now.
With 53 BHP and a five speed box, the XS2 comfortably held it’s own with British Triumph and BSA motorcycles of a similar configuration. Now highly valued both sides of the Atlantic as one of Yamaha’s great classic machines.
