Launched in 1971, it is fair to say that Yamaha invented a new genre of motorcycle, taking the street scrambler to a much higher level to that of a trail bike, not just a machine that looked like it could go of road, but a machine that really could cut it on the rough stuff!
It’s 360 motor was torquey and powerful, the chassis also derived from the works moto-cross machines of that period complimented the engine beautifully, in fact this machine was the start of Yamaha’s dominance of the on road/off road market, one that even today is enviable, despite stiff competition from KTM and others.
