The crankshaft/con-rod/Piston assembly is the most stressed area of the engine. The various components that make up the assembly, especially piston-rings and bearings, become worn, leading to reduced power and a smoky exhaust (Piston rings and/or valve guides) and reduced oil pressure (bearings) and the potential for a catastrophic failure if not addressed; such a failure can severely damage the engine - not a happy thought?
