Following on from the long running and successful CR80, the CR85 was announced in 2003, and the design took into account the fact that youngsters were getting bigger and taller for their age, so with large wheels and other modifications the CR85 soon achieved the dominance that the CR80 once commanded.
For the 2006 model, here is how Honda America pitched the model:
“Are you serious about winning¿ Then start racing on the bike that utterly dominates the competition: the CR85R. Built with all the attention to detail and advanced engineering as its bigger CR/CRF siblings, no other bike at the gate even compares.”
