Fitting a new Connecting Rod is advisable when rebuilding the engine. The old item/s may well have worn and could allow a 'loose' little and big end bearing with potentially catastrophic engine damage and a most unpleasant noise!

Renewing the Side Plate at the same time would be sensible, interfacing new parts with old is never going to be ideal.
