Honda produced a few very different 125cc models, that use the descriptive term CL125.
The first, based on the Honda CB125/CB93 model, using the same centre cam chain engine, de-tuned to 13.5ps @ 10000 rpm this was in 1966, at the same time as the almost identical CL160 and followed on after the success of the CL72.
In 1967, the next model was that based on the SS125, with pressed steel backbone frame, single carburettor and weighing just 98kg.
Following this model was the K3 with the later upright engine, full cradle frame and a five speed box, this being the last of line of CL Twins, well almost, in Japan, Honda announced a home market only CL135, this based on the CB135, and yes that is not a miss-print CB135! This model having a rev-counter and twin carburettors.
The CL125 mantle was taken up with machines based on the CB125S overhead cam single cylinder engine, actually much easier to ride off road, but with Yamaha re-defining the class with the DT1 amongst other machinery, the CL125 chapter drew to a close in 1974.
This overhead cam engine however was developed for many other off-road Honda’ the rarest (now) and most valuable as a collectors bike is the TL125 trials machine.
