The first Moto-Cross machine from Suzuki to bear the name RM100 was launched back in 1978, and followed the standard format set out by the successful RM (racing model) models of that time. It was designed to bridge the gape between entry level junior Moto-Cross and full on adult 125 machinery.
The 98cc piston and reed valve engine was air-cooled and produced a high 19.5hp @ 10,500 rpm. The machine though was closer to a 125 in dimensions and weight weighing 87kg.
After the RM100 from the 1970’s and 1980’s Suzuki resurrected the name in 2003 with the same mid-size format. By this time Suzuki and Kawasaki were co-operating in joint ventures to reduce the high costs of R&D, resulting in this Suzuki liquid-cooled two-stroke RM100 actually being a re-badged Kawasaki KX100! And it was none the worse for that, Kawasaki at that time had some of the best handling Moto-Cross and enduro machinery around, and Suzuki some of the best-developed two-stroke engines!
