Yamaha XS400 1982 MAXIM USA information
Introduced in 1977 to replace the outgoing XS360, the 180 degree parallel four stroke twin had an increase in power to 36BHP, and coupled with a six speed box was par for the course with other 400cc four stroke machinery from other manufacturers, until Honda bought out their CB400N, which with a three valve head became the class leader with 40BHP.
The Yamaha was a solid seller, due to a relatively low purchase price, and with many advanced standard features, one of the first motorcyles with self cancelling indicators for example!
