The oil pump assembly and its associated ancillary components has to be reliable - like 100% reliable to ensure the engine gets the lifeblood it requires to remain viable and not seizing up, as two-stroke engines can when the oil pump suffers a failure of one of its components.
Overhauling an older or well used engine must include the close inspection of the oil pump assembly, and replacing, where required, any damaged, worn or corroded parts.
