It is wise to replace all, or as many as possible, of the working parts as a matter of course when carrying out a carburettor overhaul.
The threads and working surfaces become worn over time, springs that hold the settings weaken and the interior surfaces becomes 'varnished' with old fuel.
These problems, that can and do occur on old carbs, serve to reduce the performance and reliability of the engine, but all can be addressed by a complete strip down of the carb, sonic cleaning and then replacement of any part that carries signs of significant wear.
