Hi,
I am new to the forum, so please be easy on me. I have a 72 Honda SL 350 that only has 3,500 original miles on it. I just recently rebuilt the carbs, because the bike was sitting for years. I also cleaned out the gas tank. The bike starts right up, but goes right to 3,500 RPM's, even with the choke off. I did replace the throttle cables, but I don't think it has anything to do with that. When it is idling at 3,500, it never comes back down, and if I give it more gas, it just sputters. Also, I have K&N filters on the carbs. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Mike, I to have a sl I believe the 72 you have has slide carbs, in your rebuild and cable change it is possible that they are not returning to the bottom. be that the cable/s may be to tight or posibly the slides have a sticking spot . My advice would be to pull them off the bike keeping the cable and slides attached look in on the air cleaner end and verify they are all the way on the bottom and that both slides move in sync. you may loosen the adjusters on the top of the carbs and screw them in to see if they are holding the slides up. if before you start you feel no slack in the twist grip this is more than likely the case. hope this helps and enjoy Joel

Joel,
Thanks for the response. What you say makes a lot of sense. I do have the slide carbs. I'll check to see if they are moving up and down with ease and that at idle there is some slack in the throttle/cable. I'll let you know what I find.

Hi
Phil Denton Engineering (they are in the U.K) could help you. They cured a similar problem with one of my 1960's Honda twins - Call them up?
