For carburettors (or throttle bodies for that matter) to function with full efficiency they require an unimpeded flow of fuel from the fuel tank and fuel pump.
Apart for the obvious checking of the fuel pump, make sure there are no degraded or cracked fuel lines that are just a whisker away from possible leakage - high octane petrol and a hot engine is not an ideal mix!
