Cooling systems can become a monster in waiting if the internals are gummed up with sludge and contaminates that can occur on older machines; especially if any of the previous owners used the wrong (tap-water?!) coolant.
To be sure of a fully functioning cooling system, renew all the various parts that may now be terminally blocked or suffering internal corrosion.

This piece is dificult to find, but is a litle expensive too. My switch fits perfect only takes me 5 minuts to change it and overheat was a past problem!

The fan switch on my 87KLR650 finally died. I purchased a new one from CMS as a replacement. Delivery was prompt and I simply screwed it into the radiator. I connected it up and rode the bike until she reached 91C and sure enough the fan came on automatically in the correct temperature. Problem easily solved.
