The cooling system is of paramount importance for reliability, if the Water-pump has become scaled up with lime and other contamination it will not be giving its best, and whilst flushing can improve matters, it may be better to fit this new component and ensure the coolant is of the recommended type at all times.
A new Water-pump is less expensive than a costly engine rebuild. Order new fasteners and gaskets at the same time and complete the job more professionally.
