An engine rebuild has to include the most vital areas, namely the piston and con-rod assemblies; zero play in the big and little ends, piston rings sealing correctly in the cylinder bore, piston without scratching or damage on the walls, and no crown erosion. So quite a list to get through. As always, it eases the task by renewing as many of the wear and damage prone parts as possible. At a bare minimum the piston rings will require replacement as they are the most wear-prone parts of the engine.
