The air-intake assembly needs to be in perfect condition, especially internally, with no damage to the inner surfaces where gas flow is so vital for top performance.
The various components such as inlet funnels, joints and seals degrade over time and renewal is often the only way to achieve a perfect fuel/air ratio with correctly filtered air and unimpeded gas-flow.
