An engine rebuild has to include the most vital areas, namely the piston and con-rod assemblies; zero play in the big and little ends, piston rings sealing correctly in the cylinder bore, piston without scratching or damage on the walls, and no crown erosion. At a bare minimum the piston rings will require replacement as they are the most wear-prone parts of the engine.
