Replacing the cam-chain and the associated tensioners and guides is simply common sense when overhauling the valve train assembly along with valves, valve-springs, retainers and seats; possibly even new camshafts if the lobes on the old items are worn?
Interfacing worn parts with new can cause premature wear of the new items - even new valves are better with new valve guides rather than reusing the old, partly worn items?
