The fundamental part of engine building is the overhaul of the crankshaft and piston assembly. Crank and con-rod bearings, pistons, piston pins and rings. All should be carefully checked for wear, scoring or damage. Renewing the inlet and exhaust valves and springs along with new valve-guides may also be advisable along with a new cam-chain and tensioners.
