Tiny Trail

Following the usual pattern of building CL (or trail type) versions of their roadsters, mainly for the seeming insatiable enthusiasm of North American enthusiasts, the Honda CL100 was launched in the USA in 1971 running until 1973.
Based on the competent CB100, the 11.5bhp @9000 rpm single overhead camshaft five speed engine was enough to propel this little machine (with a small rider), to about 55 mph (89 km/h).

A braced handlebar and a high-mount exhaust added their usual off-road styling of the model’s appearance. In some states the CL100 was also available as CL100S, which had a throttle limiter to reduce power to 5 HP to meet some state restrictions for younger riders.

As most trail style machinery like these were pretty much ridden to death, especially the restricted models ridden almost exclusively by youngsters, few fine examples remain 100% cosmetically and mechanically intact today and those that do command surprisingly high values in the classic marketplace.
