Battle Of The Belgians

Belgian suzuki Motocross legend Sylvain Geboers leading the way during the 1971 250cc Motocross World Championship UK round held at Dodington Park, Gloucestershire.

Geboers managed to lead for the majority of the heat on his factory suzuki but was overtaken by fellow Belgian Joël Robert in the final part of the race.

From 1968 to 1972, Geboers was at the height of his successful career. Being runner-up in the 250cc championship twice and third three times, the Belgian was well-known all over the globe as he also raced in the American Trans-AMA championships. In 1971 Geboers won this series outright in the 500cc class.

Although often overshadowed by countryman Joël Robert, he was a respected and very popular rider because of his considerate riding style and affable nature in the paddock. Always a happy and positive man, Sylvain thrilled his fans - and competitors - with his skill and determination at a time when the Japanese manufacturers were embarking on a long period of MX dominance.
