Introduced in 1974 for the USA and European markets, this machine was an immediate success for Yamaha, it’s build quality and rugged good looks put the British offerings from Triumph and Norton to shame, not only was much better built than a Triumph Bonneville, it was faster and less expensive! Its 51BHP @ 7500rpm overhead cam engine was bullet proof, and soon earned great respect on the ‘Mile’ flat track racing so popular in the USA. To this day many American tuning firms produce a wide selection of after market café racer and flat track accessories for these super motorcycles.
