XR100R 1986 (G) USA

info

Introduced as a class up from the XR80, with more power and torque, this was a full size competition machine, based on the street legal XL100.

Like it’s smaller siblings, the XR80 and XR75, the popularity of this easy to ride off road machine continued for many years allowing a production run of over 20 years from it’s launch in 1981, usually modified for each new model year, sometimes mechanically, but more usually cosmetically.

The single overhead camshaft engine introdcued way back in 1970, as a point of interest to Honda enthusiasts, was the second longest running design only been beaten, thrashed actually, by the Cub engine, although the less inspiring CG125 push-rod engine will soon usurp it, being in production since 1977, and still being produced today by Honda satellite companies based in India, Brazil and China, but still leaving the overhead camshaft Cub engine with a clear lead that can never really be beaten!
