The 450cc version of Hondas 250 rebel received similar style with the ‘Chopper’ look, with a relaxed rake to the front forks and very low seat height. Performance however was well down on the old CM450, with just 38bhp, a whole 10 less than it’s predecessor.
But that is not the whole story, this engine had a lot more mid range pulling power, whereas the old one had to be revved hard to deliver it’s best, the Rebel be short shifted in real cruiser fashion, making a much more relaxing experience.
The low seat height suited riders of shorter stature well, but for anyone much above
5’-10” tall comfort was compromised.
A fine looking well made machine launched in 1986, and with many Honda cruisers for the period seem to command good used values, especially as the parts situation at the time of writing is very healthy. This situation of course will eventually change as with all used Honda’s the NOS parts eventually dry up.
