MT50 TRAILHOPPER 1973 (K) USA (E03)

info

Introduced by Suzuki in 1972, the MT50 ‘Trail Hopper’ was an obvious stab at Honda’s at the Mini-Bike market dominated by Honda with their superb Monkey Bike.

It was a good effort; the air-cooled two-stroke put out a crisp 3.0hp from it’s advanced disc-valve induction system. This was enough to propel this pretty looking machine to 35mph, aided by a three-speed gearbox and automatic clutch.

Priced considerably lower then the Honda this model sold quite well, but it’s dimensions, unlike the Honda Monkey Bike, precluded all but the most petite adults from riding it, it was a kiddies bike, and as such it’s sales were limited. A shame because its weight of just 60kg combined with a very crisp two-stroke engine ensured this well made mini-bike was a delight to ride!
