The machine that changed everything, the first modern Sports Super bike and the first to top 160mph! The ZX900 Ninja and GPZ900 raised the bar considerably; much like the Z900 did a decade earlier! By liquid cooling and using four valves per cylinder, power was up to a mighty 115 @9500 rpm. This combined with 54.40 ft lbs of torque allowed the fastest standing quarter time ever recorded by a production machine of 11.01 seconds, this was the kind of times set by drag bikes just a few years earlier!
It seems Kawasaki have a habit of innovation, standard leading ideas and thoughtful design that coax the other big three out of their sometimes self congratulatory torpor!
The GPZ900 certainly did that, and is a valuable classic machine today. A good end for a motorcycle that changed the face of sports Bikes forever.
