Launched in 1983 the ZX1100 was originally an air cooled ‘muscle bike’ that also doubled up as an excellent sports touring machine. This model ran with slight changes to 1985, when the second generation of ZX1100’s was launched. These came with modern perimeter alloy frames and 16 valve liquid cooled engines, the format that has been used in a fast evolving form to ensure the ZX-11 Ninja set the standard for nearly a decade in the open sports class until being replaced by the ZX-12 in 2001.
