Introduced in 1978 primarily for the trail bike hungry North American market, this well engineered single overhead camshaft four stroke was an immediate sales success.
The flexible 17bhp @ just 7000 rpm engine was flexible and blessed with plenty of mid range mild mannered performance. The first models had a more powerful 21bhp @ 8500rpm, but were a little on the peaky side for most trail applications.
The model has now evolved into the advanced six speed double overhead camshaft four-valve machine available well into the new millennia, now considerably lighter at just 113kg, and still a popular choice for those requiring genuine dual purpose motorcycle.
