Kawasaki ZG1200 information

Kawasaki ZG1200

With a standing quarter of a little over 12 seconds, the Kawasaki ZG1200 Voyager was comfortably the fastest Grand touring motorcycle in it’s class when launched in 1986.

With a DOHC four cylinder four valve engine, the performance was sublime, a feeling enhanced by the counter rotating balance shafts, giving an ethereal smoothness to this heavy 365kg (wet) machine.

The steering was also good, not like so many heavy touring machines falling into the turn at low speeds, throttle response was also spot on, and in may way’s this was a full on touring machine with sports bike responses. The down side was that the pin sharp steering was a little too sharp at higher speeds, making it less easy to ride in the relaxed style favoured by this type of motorcycle.

Great value compared with competitors from BMW, Harley Davidson, Honda and even Yamaha, helped make this a sales success story, and with such advantages of hydraulic tappets, and mechanical longevity ensure this remains a popular touring two wheeled choice.
