Kawasaki EN400A2 VULCAN 1986 CANADA / LIQUID COOLED information
The EN400 Vulcan was announced in 1986, and although aimed at the North American market, sold very well in Japanese 400cc license friendly home market.
The four stroke parallel twin was up to the mark with 45bhp @ 9000rpm, allowing the 184kg double overhead camshaft machine to perform as well or better than any of the 400cc-cruiser competition. A six-speed gearbox ensured the rev happy over square engine could be kept on the boil, in a very non-cruiser like way!
A belt final drive was reasonably reliable by the standards of the day, but healthy after market belt sales do suggest a trend!
