Honda XL70 information
Introduced for the lucrative and seemingly insatiable North American trail bike market in 1974, the XL70 replaced the very similar outgoing SL70.
Power was 5bhp for the 47mm x 41.4mm bore and stroke overhead camshaft engine.
Barrel was aluminium for weight saving. For the USA market the silencer had to have a spark arrester-an absolute necessity for riding in wooded areas, and was a legal obligation.
The XL70 was produced for two years, production ceasing by the end of 1976
As usual with off-road Honda’s, considerable interest is evident by enthusiasts and collectors of vintage Honda’s, and in North America well restored models change hands for high prices.
