Keeping fuel born particles out of the carburettors is vital. Renewing this strainer will help achieve that, and they do need replacing regularly especially with modern unleaded fuel laying down 'varnish' on everything it touches! It is easier to replace this than strip down the carburettors every time a jet becomes blocked!
