The highly stressed parts of the valve train assembly suffer excessive wear on the operating surface of the valves, cam-shaft, bearings, followers and rockers, and the valve springs lose their temper(springiness).
When any part of the valve gear breaks, it always means engine out and head off, sometimes even a complete strip down if metal has dropped into the sump!
So when overhauling the head, renew as many of the wear and damage prone parts as possible to ensure perfect, durable results.
