Yamaha XS1
The first Yamaha 4-stroke model featured a 650cc vertical, twin cylinder engine. It became extremely popular due to its reliability and high level of rider enjoyment. Launched in 1970, it fired a broadside at the British bike industry, of course entrenched in the parallel vertical twin. The handling was not up to British standards, but the single overhead cam engine was smooth, powerful and above all reliable.
It is coveted today as one of the iconic machines from the 1970’s, and still turns heads with it’s classic good looks and styling.
