Yamaha’s policy of maintaining rider/competitor loyalty ensured that as Junior riders progressed to larger capacity faster machinery, they would feel immediately at home with the same control layout, and a similar, albeit higher power delivery. This 175, introduced in 1972 engendered confidence, helping the rider to be more competitive, and more top placings mean higher sales for the company, a strategy still employed today with modern competition machinery.
