Suzuki T250IIR 1972 J USA E03

The T250 replaced the highly successful T20 Super Six in 1967, and was a big act to follow, but follow it did. With even more power, now up to 33hp, the most powerful 250-road machine ever made the six-speed box and superb styling and colour schemes sold nearly as well as the original. The T250 as it was now generally called did not have everything its own way however, as Yamaha had launched their superb YDS6 off the back of there successful World Championship TD2 race machines.

The T250 evolved over it’s production period into the GT250 in1972, gaining a disc brake up front, which like most Japanese disc brakes at that time was dangerously ineffective in wet conditions. Power was down on the 1972 onwards model, Ram-Air was also introduced, this was supposed to channel air behind the cylinder, but to most just spoiled the appearance!

Suzuki never managed to repeat the success of the Super Six, mainly because the competition had caught up, and by the time the X7 was released in the late 1970’s, the 250cc market in Europe had all but disappeared. This was especially the case in the U.K, which was one of the few countries that allowed learner novice riders to ride a 250. When the U.K changed its licensing laws in line with the rest of Europe, the 250cc market died. Indeed the biggest 250cc market was and still is in Japan, where some of the most exiting 250 sports machines can be found to this day, true successors to the fabulous ‘Super Six’!
