Suzuki GSXR400 1987 (H) GENERAL EXPORT (E01) information
The GSX-R400 was launched in 1984 and was the first mass-produced lightweight race replica with an aluminium perimeter frame. The engine was a liquid cooled 16-valve ‘Four’ and was based on Yoshimura’s TT-F3 racer. This machine broke new ground on weight saving, weighing between 13kg and 31kg less than the CBR400R and FZ400R.
All 400’s in Japan are restricted to 59hp, but it’s lightweight, at just 152kg and superior handling made this model the best in its class, and by some margin!
Its power to weight ratio was even superior to Suzuki’s own RG250 Gamma at 2.57kg/hp. All sports bikes made since have followed these design principles, which changed the way motorcycles were conceived and constructed forever!
