I have a Grey and a Black wire on my pick-up coil. I have dissconnected the connector and tested each wire from the pick-up for continuity to the frame. The black wire has continuity is this correct or is it the cause of the problem?

With the ignition you have one continues signal, could very well be black wire. When you say coil, do you mean the condensator?
