Simon Thomas: ZX600E ram air system

I am building an off raod buggy with a ZX600E engine.
From the top of the carb assemble between carb 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 there is a small connection which joins each other and then goes forward to each side of the ram air system. There appears to be a small filter where the pipes join the ducts.
I don't have the ram air ducts.
These pipes would appear to give slight air pressure back to the carbs, which inturn puts additional petrol in via small brass jets.
Does this system only work a large speeds.
I am not expecting to reach any high speeds.
Does anyone think it's ok to leave these pipes out?
