The Darrien Gap - Can we cross the river?

The phone rings at 23:30 PM. That can only be Henno. "Can you hear me?" The phone is disconnected. I grap my Dictaphone, switch on my PC and wait.

15 minutes later, the phone rings again. Henno?
"Yes, I just went outside for a better connection. But gee, this street is noisy". The connection was excellent now, and I understand that they are still in Turbo. "Things aren't as easy as we thought. That boat makes the transfer, but we must a special permit to take the bikes with us. Three bikes take too much space, which means fewer passengers. Of course somebody has to make up for that. It takes quite some negotiating, but we'll manage".

Henno tells us that as an alternative, they could also charter a boat in the nearby harbor. Even if that would cost more. Henno sounds determined. "We cannot afford to wait longer, because it's already raining too much. We can get troubles with that".

They shall take the boat to Acandi. They did not receive usable info on the routes through the Darrien Gap; the national park in the south is a close for people. And it is said that guerilla's have refuge there.

I inform Henno about the massive drug catch at the coast of Panama today. Not something they could use right now.
