Suzuki rides on Heat, delays Zeus launch
suzuki Motorcycles plans to delay the launch of its 125cc Zeus motorcycle as it wants to gauge market response for its other 125cc vehicle, Heat, which will hit the markets first. The company had originally planned to make available both vehicles this month, after showcasing them in the Auto Expo, this January.
If Heat meets with a good response requiring increased production, the company will even look at further postponing the launch of Zeus, said Satya Sheel, managing director, suzuki Motorcycles India, speaking to ET.
Heat is targeted at the general commuter, while Zeus is positioned as an attractive, slightly more expensive vehicle for the college goer. Though both vehicles are targeted at different segments, they are essentially motorcycles with the same engine and technical specification, but with different exteriors.
Hence, the company would not want two competing models when they are just beginning their innings in the country as an independent company, according to industry experts. This is a re-entry for suzuki in the Indian motorcycle market after it severed ties with TVS in '00 with whom it had been in a joint venture called TVS-suzuki.
