2009 will be the Final Year for the Honda S2000
Since its introduction in 1999, the S2000 has always been an impressive little sports car. What other car can you buy for under $40k that gives the driver the thrill of an F1 car by revving all the way to 8900 rpm? Today, Honda announced that it's the end of the road for the little roadster and it plans to end its production after the 2009 model year.

2008 Honda S2000
The S2000 was initially launched for the 2000 model year as a limited-edition tribute to Honda's 50th anniversary. The car was so well received when it hit the market that Honda agreed to continue its production. Its name came from the nearly 2,000 cc motor that delivered 240 horsepower. The 123.5 hp per liter ratio from a naturally aspirated engine was unheard of at the time and is still considered very efficient.
Honda made only minor revisions to the S2000 over the years. The most notable was the facelift for 2004 that included cosmetic changes to the exterior and retuned the suspension to reduce the car's tendency to oversteer. In late 2007 the S2000 CR (Club Racer) was available and it included a removable hardtop and a suspension tuned specifically for the track.
Now, the affordable, high-revving little sports car with Honda's legendary reliability seems to have gone the way of the NSX supercar. Sadly, according to recent reports, our hope for another Honda sports car such as a NSX-successor looks bleak.
The S2000 is available in 64 countries and more than 110,000 of them have been sold worldwide. The base price of the 2009 model is $35,669 including destination.
